Make your first website!
Choose a URL
This is the unique name for your website that people will use to find it. You can really only use basic characters and no spaces. Don't make it too long or hard to remember as students will have difficulty typing correctly if they ever need to. Try adding a number or something else a bit different if all of the first things you try are taken.
Choose a Theme
Don't worry too much about the theme you choose as you can change it easily enough later.
The main thing you are looking for is the layout as you can easily change the image later. You can even change fonts and colours later too.
Look at where the menus are on the page. Do you want your menus across the top, down the left hand side or in the top right hand corner?

Build on your Home Page
- Add a title (bigger writing) and some text (smaller writing).
- Try formatting the text, changing the colour, size, or style
- As you add more text boxes or titles, try making columns (watch the blue bar as this is where your text or title will end up.)
- Delete a title or text box
- Add an image - it could be from a URL or something you have saved on your computer.
Add and Manage Pages
- In the Pages tab, add a new page (call it Term 1 if you can't think of anything else)
- Change the name of one of the standard pages to something else
- Delete a page
- Move a page in the hierarchy so it appears differently in the menu
Play with the Theme
- Choose a different theme
- Change the fonts used on your website to make the default font larger (important on iPads or if planning to project onto a screen that is far away)
Explore the Options
- Add a button - link it to a URL not in your website
- Add another button and link it to one of your own pages (standard page)
- Add a button and link it to a file
- Check out the sections, dividers and spacers for organising your layout
- Add a video - either using the YouTube option or the Embed Code option
- Try out the Assignment Form or the slideshow
Publish Your Website
Publishing your website will make it a "real website". It is useful to publish as you go so you can test things out to see how they are working and what they will look like. Tell someone else your URL (or email it to them) so they can check out what you have achieved so far.
If you have not created something you want to keep as it is, delete most of the pages, and leave one basic page with a "work in progress" message. Hit "Publish" again, and your site will update.
When you log in next time, you can rebuild it in the way you would like it to be.
